Funny Yummy Yarn Review

 

Made by King Cole, this is a super chunky yarn, that comes in 100g balls.  10mm (UK) knitting needles are suggested.  Ours cost £4.49 per ball.  You can buy it from Wool Warehouse (www.woolwarehouse.co.uk) or your local knitting or craft store.

The yarn is 100% polyester and comes in a variety of colours.  It is a chenille type of yarn, with a super-soft fluffy texture.  It can fray at the ends and ideally you should knot these to stop that from happening.

The yarn has loops along the strand.  This adds to the overall texture of the finished piece.  Due to this, we found it a little difficult to knit with.  However, you just need a little patience and to make sure that you don’t get your needles caught in the loops.  Once you get used to that, due to it’s size, this yarn knits up very quickly, so you can get a finished product in quick time.

The yarn was ideal for the scarf we knitted but it could also be used for blankets or statement cushion covers.  It is super-soft, tactile and warm.

                             

Cosy on Up Yarn Review

Made by Hobbycraft (www.hobbycraft.co.uk), this is a super chunky yarn.  Very versatile, you can use it for scarves, sweaters, hats.  We used it for our Slumber Sock project (See our Knitting page).

The yarn comes in 200g balls and suggested needle size is 10 – 12mm (UK).  The cost per ball is currently £8.80.  Hobbycraft currently has a 3 for 2 sale on yarns.  Our Slumber Socks took 2 to 3 balls (one per sock with some yarn left over to sew the seams).

The yarn has a nice structure and soft feel.  It is a mix of 30% Wool and 70% acrylic.  We liked this as it gave the yarn the softness and warmth of Wool, whilst also making the socks a bit more resilient and easy to wash.  The yarn is machine washable at 30 degrees.

It comes in a variety of on-trend colours, including a soft pink, cream and teal.

                                                       

 

Wool Couture Yarns

If you want something a bit different and luxurious to work with, this could be for you.  Be warned though, it isn’t cheap.  However, we think the results are amazing.

We have used their Cheeky Chunky Super Chunky yarns.  These are pure 100% Merino Wools that come in up to 30 different colours.  A 200g skein is £12.99 (plus p&p).  You would hand wash this only.

 

 

 

 

We have also used their Epic Extreme Yarn for arm-knitting other projects.  It is ideal for scarves and blankets.  This is professional dry clean only.  It is fine and delicate and very warm.  Merino Wool is an active fibre that changes with body temperature and being Wool, fully sustainable.

This comes in balls, starting at 250grams (£12.99  per £250grams plus p&p).  You can buy the amount that you need.  There is guidance on the website as to how much you would need for blankets of different sizes.
